Obituary of Joseph W. Hull

Joseph W. Hull passed away on September 14, 2022, in Wilmington, North Carolina at the age of 106. Joe was born on June 24, 1916 to the late John S. Hull and Mary Martin Hull. Joe spent his childhood in Smethport, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Smethport High School in 1934. After high school, Joe attended St. Bonaventure University and he was a very proud member of the Class of 1939.

In January of 1940, Joe married Harriett Christine Long from Port Allegany, Pennsylvania. They raised their daughters Nancy and Jo Ann and their son John in Hilton, New York. While in Hilton, Joe was a member of the Hilton Volunteer Fire Department, President of the Hilton School Board and an active member of the Hilton Methodist Church.

Joe had a long and very successful career at Eastman Kodak in Rochester, New York. For many years, he was the Head of the Electro Plating Department. Upon his retirement from Kodak in 1976, Joe and Harriett moved to Wilmington, NC. They resided in Pine Valley for over 30 years and enjoyed golfing, square dancing, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. Joe remained physically active until the last few days of his 106 years. He was a wonderful Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, and friend. A true gentleman.

Joe is survived by his children, Nancy Hull, Jo Ann Stephens (Mark), and John Hull (Mary); brother, Donald; grandsons, Joseph Troxell (Reba) and Kevin Hull; and his great-grandchildren, Olivia and Quinn Troxell. He was predeceased by his wife Harriett, his parents, and his siblings, Margaret, Louise, Norma, Helen, Jean, and Jim.
