Obituary of Laurie Brongo
Rochester - Laurie (Knight) Brongo passed away suddenly on February 13, 2023 at the age of 54. She was predeceased by her father, Robert Knight; and her husband, Kenneth Brongo. She is survived by her two sons, Michael Scanlon and TJ Scanlon; her mother, Beverly Ashley; her siblings, Michelle (Alex) Corredor, Kristen (Jeff) Nuccitelli, Brian (Michele) Beenhouwer, and Phil Beenhouwer; her step-sons, Jeremy (Graziela) Brongo and Michael (Tina) Brongo; along with many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, numerous loved ones, and dear friends.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, February 17, 3:00 -7:00 PM at the Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home, 735 East Avenue, Hilton, NY 14468. Laurie's life will be celebrated with a Service on Saturday, February 18, at 12 noon at Glendoveers, 2328 Old Browncroft Blvd, Rochester 14625. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at St. John’s Cemetery, Spencerport. (In loving memory of Laurie please do something special for someone you meet)
Laurie was born to her parents, Robert and Beverly Knight, November 19, 1968. Growing up, she thoroughly enjoyed spending time boating, waterskiing and fishing. Many summers were spent in the Thousand Islands creating countless memories on the water with family and friends. During her time at Cardinal Mooney High School, she made many close friends who she maintained contact with throughout her life. She then attended the University of Dayton, where she would graduate with a degree in education, and receive her masters from Nazareth College, which led to her time at St. Joseph’s Villa as a teacher and Vice Principal, where she devoted herself to educating and working with underprivileged children in the Rochester community. Laurie took pride in being there for others and helping those in need; whether it was during her time teaching or for those she loved dearly, Laurie always placed the needs of others above her own.
Some of Laurie’s favorite things as an adult included boating, cooking, and spending time with friends and family, especially her two boys. It did not matter if she was making Michael & TJ a meal, or watching them play sports; when she was with her boys she was happy. She cherished every moment she had with her boys and took great pride in raising them to become young men.
Above all else, Laurie did everything she could for the people she loved. It did not matter if you were related, if she loved you she made it known to you. She was one of the most selfless people that many of us will ever know. If we could all portray the amount of care and passion Laurie had for those she loved, the world would be a better place. Laurie will be remembered and loved by all those who knew her.
