Obituary of John J. Kinane Jr.
Hilton - John J. Kinane Jr. passed away on February 20, 2024 at the age of 86. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret, and his brother, Father Gerard Kinane. He is survived by his son, John (Pamela) Kinane; his grandchildren, Amanda, Matthew, and Emily; and his siblings, Edward (Grace) Kinane, James (Ann Marie) Kinane, and Mary Lou Callahan.
John graduated from Scranton Catholic High School with the class of 1956. He attended the University of Scranton where he studied Biology and Pre-Med. He was a Veteran of the US Army in the 728th Military Police Battalion, while serving in Pusan Korea. He moved to Rochester in 1960, where he met his future wife, Margaret. He was employed by the US Postal Inspection Service in Rochester, where he worked as a Federal Police Officer. He was a former Judge for Batavia Town Court, former Past President of Buffalo Lodge 18 at Fraternal Order of Police, a former member of the Advisory Board of Directors at the Adam Walsh Child Rescue Center, an active member of the American Legion. He was on the National Board of Directors at esflea.org, was an active member of the Association of Rochester Police and area Law enforcement retirement, an active member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, an active member of the NYS Fraternal Order of Police Memorial Lodge 100, was a former National Executive Vice President at Emerald Society of Federal, a life member at VFW Post 412, and a former Past Secretary at Batavia Kiwanis. He was a devout Catholic and belonged to St. Leo the Great parish in Hilton. He will be deeply missed.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, March 1, 2024 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at the Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home, Inc., 735 East Avenue, Hilton. John's Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 110 Old Hojack Lane, Hilton. Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton, Pennsylvania at the convenience of the family.
