Obituary of Kathy McMann
Kathleen Ann McMann was born Kathleen Ann Kausch, in Rochester N.Y., on April 12, 1943. Kathy grew up in Rochester and met Fred McMann at an ice skating party in December 1958. One year later she invited Fred, who was home on break during his first year in college, to a Sadie Hawkins Christmas dance at her high school. After that date there was no one else for either of them. Kathy and Fred were married on January 20, 1962 in the middle of Fred’s sophomore year. In September of 1962, Deborah Lynn McMann was born. Two more "births" happened in their marriage - when both Kathy and Fred were born again, they accepted the work of Christ on the cross, and made Him King of their lives and marriage.
In 1964, Fred graduated with a BS in Ceramic Engineering. Kathy got a PHT that year, that would be a "Putting Hubby Through" degree.
Fred’s first job was in Hamilton, Ontario Canada, and in 1965, Peter James McMann was born. In 1968, they moved back to Alfred, New York where Dad got a job teaching combustion and managing a laboratory/pilot plant at the same university that he graduated from. It was at this time that Kathy took an interest in ceramics and painting, and you could start to call her an artist. She was also very active teaching Sunday School, VBS, and Kids Bible Club, on top of managing the house and being a mother. Son Peter says that if it was a choice between house work or spending time with his sister and himself, she would always choose us. In 1980, Fred got a job offer in Texas, and he felt that the Lord was in the move, and felt a call to start a home Bible study, and the family moved to The Woodlands,Texas. Kathy continued all the activities that she did in New York, just in Texas, including VBS and Sunday School. It was over the next few years that she started to come into her own as an artist. She also managed the Pregnancy Center in the Woodlands for a few years.
After Debbie and Peter moved out, Kathy’s life was taken up with her art in painting and drawings and also taking art classes. She never stopped teaching kids at church, and this love for kids found an outlet at Sandy Creek Bible Camp as a counselor during summer camp, with no A.C. back then. She especially loved Junior High. She also worked in the kitchen cooking and doing whatever she could to help.
In 2016, Debbie was dying of breast cancer that had metastasized to her brain. Kathy and Fred moved in with her and ministered to their daughter physically and spiritually for nine months until the Lord took her home on September 29, 2016. She died with her head on Fred’s lap while Kathy was singing hymns to her.
Over the years, much of Kathy’s life was taken up with two long recoveries from two major car accidents, both involved major surgeries and long rehabs. Her faith in God was never shaken. Lastly there was a broken hip and then liver cancer. Again she worked hard on recovering, still with a strong faith in God until she went home November 1, 2024.
Through all this time, Kathy poured her life into 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren as well as many of the other people she came in contact with.
Kathy's Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 2:00PM at First Colony Bible Chapel, 3610 Austin Parkway, Sugar Land TX 77479. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of Kathy to Sandy Creek Bible Camp, 5051 Prayer Lane, Washing TX 77880.
